Indications for use
Nobivac NXT® HCPChFeLV is indicated for active immunisation of cats:
- To reduce mortality, clinical signs and virus excretion caused by infection with feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV).
- To reduce the clinical signs and virus excretion caused by infection with feline calicivirus (FCV).
- To prevent mortality, clinical signs, leucopaenia and virus excretion caused by infection with feline panleucopaenia virus (FPL).
- To reduce the clinical signs and bacterial excretion caused by infection with Chlamydia felis (Ch).
- To prevent/reduce persistent viraemia and clinical signs caused by feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).
Onset of immunity: 1 week.
Duration of immunity:
- For feline herpesvirus type 1: 1 year after primary vaccination, 1 – 3 years after re-vaccination.
- For feline calicivirus: 1 year after primary vaccination, 1 – 3 years after re-vaccination.¶
- For feline panleucopaenia virus: 1 – 3 years.
- For Chlamydia felis: 1 year.
- For feline leukaemia virus: 1 year after primary vaccination, 1 – 3 years after re-vaccination.
¶ Until 1 year after primary vaccination or re-vaccination, a prevention in persistent viraemia and in clinical signs associated with feline leukaemia virus has been demonstrated.
Contra-indications
None.
Warnings
Only vaccinate healthy animals.
Special precautions for safe use in the target species: The presence of maternally derived antibodies may interfere with the efficacy of the vaccine.
It is recommended that a test for FeLV antigenaemia be carried out prior to vaccination. Vaccination of FeLV-positive cats is of no benefit.
Vaccinated cats may excrete the feline herpesvirus and feline calicivirus vaccine strains from the respiratory tract for 14 days following vaccination. Vaccinated cats may excrete the feline panleucopaenia virus vaccine strain in the faeces for 14 days following vaccination.
The viruses can spread to other cats, but without causing clinical signs of disease.
Do not use during pregnancy.
Side effects
Cats:
Common (1–10 animals / 100 animals treated): Injection site swelling,# elevated temperature.**
Very rare (<1 animal / 10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports): Febrile limping syndrome reactions in kittens.††
# 0.5–2 cm, diffuse, hard or soft, not warm and can be painful, lasting for 1 day.
** Pyrexia (≥39.7 °C) lasting for 1 day.
†† Can occur in kittens, as reported after the use of any vaccine containing a feline calicivirus component. Transient.
Reporting adverse events is important. It allows continuous safety monitoring of a veterinary medicinal product. Reports should be sent, preferably via a veterinary healthcare professional, to either the marketing authorisation holder or the national competent authority via the national reporting system. See the package leaflet for respective contact details.
